Synopsis:

Lincoln: Catching sight of my neighbor’s ass in the hallway the day I moved in more than piqued my interest. It's not just the body that has my attention. She's mysterious, hiding behind sunglasses that cover most of her face. I ask her name and try to get her to talk on the rare occasions I see her in the hallway, but every time she ignores me and turns away. I need to know more about this woman, I can't get her out of my head. Do I keep trying? Do I keep asking her name?

Ashton: I’m barely holding on. I’m always on the edge, even after all these years. I live every day the same and I can’t change who I am no matter how much I try. My new neighbor won't give up asking my name and trying to make conversation with me. If he knew me he wouldn't keep trying. I'm a lost cause.

The Cover:

Excerpt:

I sucked in a breath. “Are you trying to kill me?”

“A little dramatic don’t you think, Ashton.” She stood up and smoothed out her clothes.

Suzanne was tall, skinny, and blonde and sometimes she wore glasses. Other than that, I don’t pay attention to people or the unique details they all have. They all blend into categories, and I can’t see past that. They are short or tall, fat or skinny, and the only other thing I notice is usually their hair color. And I guess glasses. Sometimes those stick out to me.

My world is boring.

Bland.

Dull and lifeless.

Sometimes the beating of my heart is the only thing that reminds me that I'm alive.

“I’m scared, Suzanne.”

I’m always so fucking scared.

“Anxiety can do that to you.”

Review

I don’t normally pre-order stuff. But after reading Pretty Stolen Dolls, I just had to. I wonder how I survived those couple of long weeks waiting for this book to be released. I just got lucky receiving an advance copy to read and review.

This is yet another mind-blowing ending for the series. I’m actually running out of adjectives to describe the book. It was well written in a way that you wouldn’t want to put the book (or my phone for that matter) down until you’ve finished every last word. I may have been too alert to have caught on the twist. But even then, I was all like “I knew it! I knew it!” It was all so surprising and extraordinary. It was also fast-paced and without a dull moment. It was able to actually live up to reader’s expectation of a good sequel. The suspense it had for the reader is just enough to tickle curiosity and make them read more and more. It devours your soul and crushes them into pieces.

The characters also portrayed a very good role of loving the story plot. They were made there for a reason. And not one bit of them was wasted. You can’t help but love to hate the villain and love the heroes. They were written in such a way that you get to see everything in their eyes. It also helped that it was written in multiple POV that you get to see the whole picture. I’m so thankful that I got the outcome that I sort of hoped for after joining the PSD spoiler group. I also enjoyed meeting a new book boyfriend at the most unlikely of places. Dillon is definitely added on my book boyfriend list.

The twist may have been something unexpected for some, it was just how I like it to be especially if they aren’t really planning on adding another book in the series. Otherwise, I may have been doomed! Just to state the obvious, I’m rating this 5 out of 5 dolly stars.

Synopsis

Benny loves his pretty little dolls.
As long as they do exactly as they're told.
He keeps them perfect by brushing their hair
and gives them pretty dresses to wear.
He likes to toy with them late at night.
One so timid but the other likes to fight.
When his favorite doll runs away...
despite the other doll promising to stay,
his heart becomes broken and he can't help but cry.
He wants her back home or his pretty little doll must die.

Have you ever had to make a decision that haunts you every single day for the rest of your life…the life you stole back?
I have.
I ran for my survival, rocks and twigs cutting into the soles of my feet, my lungs burning and screaming for rest, every muscle tensed and fighting along with me for existence.
I left her.
I ran, ran, ran—from Benny and his lone, pretty little doll—until I couldn’t remember where to find them again.
I’m sorry.

Review

I’ve been seeing this book promoted by one of my favorite authors and an admin of one of the groups I’m in. But for some reason, and maybe because of the fact that this is only $0.99 at the time, I one clicked and preordered.

I haven’t read a really good heart stopping suspense thriller for some time now. This book kept me up all night (or afternoon for that matter). First, it made me miss my stop going home. Then it made me miss my sleep that afternoon. I should be preparing for an 8-hour shift and I only had 3 hours of sleep. It’s been a long time since I let sleep pass in exchange of reading a book. Recently, I’d let my exhaustion get into me. But this book make me want to forego sleep altogether. My hands and feet were clammy with sweat. And I think I held my breath more times than I could count.
I also loved Dillon Scott. I think I found a book boyfriend in him. It’s kind of weird, but you’ll never really expect where you can find your next book boyfriend.

I also loved the twist on the plot and *insert spoiler here*. It boggled my mind so much that I had to think back on all the other scenarios and hated myself because it’s actually right there in my face and I didn’t see it. It was just amazingly written.

My heart’s still pounding way after I've read it. And even though I kind of hate myself for not listening to my gut feel when it said that I wouldn’t like how this will end, I would still definitely give this five out of five stars. I wouldn’t hold it against the book or the author if I suck at waiting. I don’t normally read on unfinished series, but this is just too hard to resist. It’s been a while since I last felt this about a book. Kudos!

EXCERPT

“’Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.” Alfred, Lord Tennyson, said that in some poem in the 1800s. In my opinion, Alfred, Lord Tennyson, was full of shit.Maybe Lord Tennyson had never truly loved someone; maybe he’d never cared for someone else more than he cared for himself, because if he had, if he’d loved someone so deeply he’d been willing to die for them, how could he have written such a horseshit line? I’m merely speculating, of course. I’m no academic, so I know nothing about the guy other than that one quote. So how then, you may ask, does my opinion so vehemently disagree with his?Because I was in love once.Only once. And I lost her.And I would give any fucking thing in the world to have never loved her at all. No, it most definitely is not better to have loved and lost..Fuck love. And fuck Lord Tennyson.

About Ker Dukey

My books all tend to be darker romance, edge of you seat, angst filled reads. My advice to my readers when starting one of my titles…prepare for the unexpected.

I have always had a passion for storytelling, whether it be through lyrics or bed time stories with my sisters growing up.

My mum would always have a book in her hand when I was young and passed on her love for reading, inspiring me to venture into writing my own. I tend to have a darker edge to my writing. Not all love stories are made from light; some are created in darkness but are just as powerful and worth telling.

When I’m not lost in the world of characters I love spending time with my family. I’m a mum and that comes first in my life but when I do get down time I love attending music concerts or reading events with my younger sister.

Nail Art: Stapled Nails

Hi guys!

I haven’t had many (if there’s any) nail art inspirations recently. And if you would notice, I have been lacking nail posts, too. And believe me, it’s not for lack of trying. I've been wanting to do and post nail art but inspiration is nowhere to be found. But seeing Cutepolish’s nail art in my IG feed, motivation hit me big time. So for today, I’m sharing with you some gory nail art, in time for the Halloween.

I started out with a base color from Max & More. This is an unpopular brand that my mom brought me when she last visited. I believe it’s something bought off a “dollar store” or something. It’s a very sheer pink polish that comes in a set for French tips. I used two coats for this. It’s so sheer that it looks almost bare on my nails.

Then I added on some Girl Stuff Matte Magic to make it look duller. This is actually necessary for the next step as well. After letting the top coat dry a bit for few minutes, you’d actually have to create the “torn skin” by dragging a dotting tool. You’d have to make sure that the polish is dry enough to touch but still wet enough to actually ruin bits of it. This will create the illusion of a peeling skin.

The tutorial used three shades of red. But after rummaging thru my stash, I realized that I haven’t had much red nail polish and I’m wondering why that is since I do like red on my nails. Because of that I was only able to use two shades, so it’s a little bit failed on that. I used Sassy Neon Red first and OMG Salsa on top of it. Since Salsa and Neon Red are almost of the same shade, I added a few drops of black polish into Salsa to make a deeper shade of red. This actually looked gorier in the picture than in real life.

To make it seem morbid, I added some striping stickers to make it seem like I stapled my nails shut. This is where I failed. I actually watched the tutorial during an idle time at work and was not able to take note exactly how it’s done. And being not so creative per se, I actually forgot that if you “staple” or puncture your nails, you have to be bleeding on the tiny hole it made. Notice that I didn’t really do that here. Si it may have been the reason why it didn’t look like I’m trying to staple them together.

Nonetheless, I still liked how it turned out. But being a pansy that I am, I knew right from the start that I wouldn’t be able to sport this look longer than after taking their pictures. So I only did this on one of my hands and immediately removed it right after the pictorial. We don’t really celebrate Halloween here or dress up as much as other countries do, but I think this is a pretty cool way to up your inner creepiness.

What do you guys think?

Colors used:
Sassy Neon Red

Release Day Blitz: A Love Letter to Whiskey - Kandi Steine

Title: A Love Letter to WhiskeyAuthor: Kandi SteinerRelease Date: Oct 13, 2016Add to GoodreadsIt’s crazy how fast the buzz comes back after you’ve been sober for so long.Whiskey stood there, on my doorstep, just like he had one year before. Except this time, there was no rain, no anger, no wedding invitation — it was just us.It was just him — the old friend, the easy smile, the twisted solace wrapped in a glittering bottle. It was just me — the alcoholic, pretending like I didn’t want to taste him, realizing too quickly that months of being clean didn’t make me crave him any less. But we can’t start here. No, to tell this story right, we need to go back. Back to the beginning.Back to the very first drop. This is my love letter to Whiskey. I only hope he reads it. The first time I tasted Whiskey, I fell flat on my face.Literally.I was drunk from the very first sip, and I guess that should have been my sign to stay away.Jenna and I were running the trail around the lake near her house, sweat dripping into our eyes from the intense South Florida heat. It was early September, but in South Florida, it might as well have been July. There was no “boots and scarves” season, unless you counted the approximately six weeks in January and February where the temperature dropped below eighty degrees. As it was, we were battling ninety-plus degrees, me trying to be a show off and prove I could keep up with Jenna’s cheerleading training program. She had finally made the varsity squad, and with that privilege came ridiculous standards she had to uphold. I hated running — absolutelyloathed it. I would much rather have been on my surf board that day. But fortunately for Jenna, she had a competitive best friend who never turned down a challenge. So when she asked me to train with her, I’d agreed eagerly, even knowing I’d have screaming ribs and calves by the end of the day.I saw him first.I was just a few steps ahead of Jenna, and I’d been staring down at my hot pink sneakers as they hit the concrete. When I looked up, he was about fifty feet away, and even from that distance I could tell I was in trouble. He seemed sort of average at first — brown hair, lean build, soaked white running shirt — but the closer he got, the more I realized just how edible he was. I noticed the shift in the muscles of his legs as he ran, the way his hair bounced slightly, how he pressed his lips together in concentration as he neared us. I looked over my shoulder, attempting to waggle my eyebrows at Jenna and give her the secret best friend code for “hot guy up ahead”, but she had stopped to tie her shoes. And when I turned back around, it was too late.I smacked into him — hard — and fell to the pavement, rolling a bit to soften the fall. He cursed and I groaned, more from embarrassment than pain. I wish I could say I gracefully picked myself up, smiled radiantly, and asked him for his number, but the truth is I lost the ability to do anything the minute I looked up at him.It was an unfamiliar, warm ache that spread through my chest as I used my hand to shield the sun streaming in behind his silhouette, just how you’d expect the first sip of whiskey to feel. He was bent over, hand outstretched, saying something that wasn’t registering because I had somehow managed to slip my hand into his and just that one touch had set my skin on fire.Handsome wasn’t the right word to describe him, but it was all I kept thinking as I traced his features. His hair was a sort of mocha color, damp at the roots, falling onto his forehead just slightly. His eyes were wide — almost too round — and a mixture of gold, green, and the deepest brown. I didn’t coin the nickname Whiskey until much later, but it was that moment that I saw it for the first time — those were whiskey eyes. The kind of eyes you get lost in. The kind that drink you in. He had the longest lashes and a firm, square jaw. It was so hard, the edges so clean that I would have sworn he was angry with me if it weren’t for the smile on his face.He was still talking as my eyes fell over his broad chest before snapping back up to his sideways grin.“Oh my God, are you fucking blind?!” Jenna’s voice snapped me from my haze as she shoved Whiskey out of the way and latched onto my hand, ripping me back to standing position. I’d barely caught my balance before she whipped around to continue her scolding. “How about you brush that long ass hair out of your eyes and watch where you’re going, huh champ?”Oh no.I didn’t even have time to call dibs, I couldn’t even think the word, let alone say it, before it was too late. I watched it, in slow motion, as Whiskey fell for my best friend before I even had the chance to say a single word to him. Jenna was standing tall, arms crossed, one hip popped in her usual fashion as she waited for him to defend himself. This was her protocol — it was one of the reasons we got along. We were both what you’d call “spitfires”, but Jenna had the distinct advantage of being cripplingly gorgeous on top of having an attitude. She flipped her long, wavy blonde ponytail behind her and cocked a brow. And then he did, too.His smile grew wider as he met her eyes, and it was the same look I’d watched fallover guy after countless guy. Jenna was a unicorn, and men were enamored by her. As they should have been — she had platinum blonde hair, crystal blue eyes, legs for days and a personality to boot. Now, before you go thinking that I was the insecure best friend - I had it going on, too. I worked hard, I was talented - just not at the things traditional high school boys valued. But we’ll get to that.“Hi,” Whiskey finally said, extending his hand to Jenna this time. His eyes were warm, smile inviting — if I had to pick the right word for him, just one, I’d say charming. He just oozed charm. “I’m Jamie.”“Well, Jamie, maybe you should make an appointment with the eye doctor before you run over another innocent jogger. And you owe Brecks an apology.” She nodded to me then and I cringed at my name, wondering why she felt the need to spill it at all. She always called me B — everyone did — so why did she choose the moment I was face to face with the first boy to ever make my heart accelerate to use my full name?Jamie was still grinning, eying Jenna, trying to figure her out, but he turned to me after a moment with that same crooked smile. “I’m sorry, I should have been watching where I was going.” He said the words with conviction, but lifted his brows on that last line because he and I both knew who wasn’t paying attention to the trail, and he wasn’t the guilty party. “It’s fine,” I murmured, because for some reason I was still having a difficult time finding my voice. Jamie tilted his head just a fraction, his eyes hard on me this time, and I felt naked beneath his gaze. I’d never had anyone look at me that way — completely zeroed in. It was unnerving and exhilarating, too. But before I could latch onto the feeling, he turned back to Jenna, their eyes meeting as slow smiles spread on both of their faces. I’d seen it a million times, but this was the first time I felt sick watching it happen.I saw him first, but it didn’t matter.Because he saw her.Kandi Steiner is a Creative Writing and Advertising/Public Relations graduate from the University of Central Florida living in Tampa with her husband. Kandi works full time as a social media specialist, but also works part time as a Zumba fitness instructor and blackjack dealer.
