Wheeler is the fourth and final book of the series and written by Ker Dukey. This isn't the first book I read of hers and she did not disappoint.

I like that the last installment wasn't really a love story or romance. I liked that even though the story was fast, it did worked with the timeline of the other books. So I think that even if they said that it can be read in any order, I'd still read them in order they were released as it would make more sense. I like that the story kept me on the edge of my seat and that this is something that I was able to read in one sitting for a while. The storyline will keep you thinking what is in store for you.

I liked Jax best among all the other fathers. I think he is the only one that actually cares about their child. Or the one that actually takes care of her the way a father should. And despite his shortcoming as a person, he still manage to give what he can to his only family.

I'd give this five stars because of how it made me feel while reading it.

About Ker Dukey

My books all tend to be darker romance, edge of your seat, angst filled reads. My advice to my readers when starting one of my titles…prepare for the unexpected. I have always had a passion for storytelling, whether it be through lyrics or bed time stories with my sisters growing up. My mum would always have a book in her hand when I was young and passed on her love for reading, inspiring me to venture into writing my own. I tend to have a darker edge to my writing. Not all love stories are made from light; some are created in darkness but are just as powerful and worth telling. When I’m not lost in the world of characters I love spending time with my family. I’m a mum and that comes first in my life but when I do get down time I love attending music concerts or reading events with my younger sister.

Pretty Dolls series has been one roller coaster ride. I loved and liked the first three installments and enjoy the "darkness" within. So I was looking forward to reading the last book. I've delayed reading it long enough and it's about time I jump into it.

I am somewhere between enjoying the plot and being disappointed with it. I don't know which one is more prominent. I was able to finish the story despite the length of time it took me to do it. Some scenes are intriguing, exciting even. But there are some that actually didn't meet my expectations. The first three was awesome to say the least, but it seems like the fourth didn't live up to the standards the others set.

The characters are okay, but a bit dull. All of them full of rage and in dire need of rest. Dillon was so realistic that he was the first protagonist that I actually wished would die. This is fiction and I expect my hero to be what he is supposed to be. A "hero". I started to agree witg Benny that he is a useless detective. Or maybe I just missed the whole point and that Dillon isn't really the character with the spotlight on.

Nonetheless, I would still give this a 3 out of 5 star. I was able to finish the book despite all other factors, so this still deserve a passing score.

Review

I don’t normally pre-order stuff. But after reading Pretty Stolen Dolls, I just had to. I wonder how I survived those couple of long weeks waiting for this book to be released. I just got lucky receiving an advance copy to read and review.

This is yet another mind-blowing ending for the series. I’m actually running out of adjectives to describe the book. It was well written in a way that you wouldn’t want to put the book (or my phone for that matter) down until you’ve finished every last word. I may have been too alert to have caught on the twist. But even then, I was all like “I knew it! I knew it!” It was all so surprising and extraordinary. It was also fast-paced and without a dull moment. It was able to actually live up to reader’s expectation of a good sequel. The suspense it had for the reader is just enough to tickle curiosity and make them read more and more. It devours your soul and crushes them into pieces.

The characters also portrayed a very good role of loving the story plot. They were made there for a reason. And not one bit of them was wasted. You can’t help but love to hate the villain and love the heroes. They were written in such a way that you get to see everything in their eyes. It also helped that it was written in multiple POV that you get to see the whole picture. I’m so thankful that I got the outcome that I sort of hoped for after joining the PSD spoiler group. I also enjoyed meeting a new book boyfriend at the most unlikely of places. Dillon is definitely added on my book boyfriend list.

The twist may have been something unexpected for some, it was just how I like it to be especially if they aren’t really planning on adding another book in the series. Otherwise, I may have been doomed! Just to state the obvious, I’m rating this 5 out of 5 dolly stars.

Book Review: Pretty Stolen Dolls - Ker Dukey and K Webster

Read 27-28 September 2016

Synopsis

Benny loves his pretty little dolls.
As long as they do exactly as they're told.
He keeps them perfect by brushing their hair
and gives them pretty dresses to wear.
He likes to toy with them late at night.
One so timid but the other likes to fight.
When his favorite doll runs away...
despite the other doll promising to stay,
his heart becomes broken and he can't help but cry.
He wants her back home or his pretty little doll must die.

Have you ever had to make a decision that haunts you every single day for the rest of your life…the life you stole back?
I have.
I ran for my survival, rocks and twigs cutting into the soles of my feet, my lungs burning and screaming for rest, every muscle tensed and fighting along with me for existence.
I left her.
I ran, ran, ran—from Benny and his lone, pretty little doll—until I couldn’t remember where to find them again.
I’m sorry.

Review

I’ve been seeing this book promoted by one of my favorite authors and an admin of one of the groups I’m in. But for some reason, and maybe because of the fact that this is only $0.99 at the time, I one clicked and preordered.

I haven’t read a really good heart stopping suspense thriller for some time now. This book kept me up all night (or afternoon for that matter). First, it made me miss my stop going home. Then it made me miss my sleep that afternoon. I should be preparing for an 8-hour shift and I only had 3 hours of sleep. It’s been a long time since I let sleep pass in exchange of reading a book. Recently, I’d let my exhaustion get into me. But this book make me want to forego sleep altogether. My hands and feet were clammy with sweat. And I think I held my breath more times than I could count.
I also loved Dillon Scott. I think I found a book boyfriend in him. It’s kind of weird, but you’ll never really expect where you can find your next book boyfriend.

I also loved the twist on the plot and *insert spoiler here*. It boggled my mind so much that I had to think back on all the other scenarios and hated myself because it’s actually right there in my face and I didn’t see it. It was just amazingly written.

My heart’s still pounding way after I've read it. And even though I kind of hate myself for not listening to my gut feel when it said that I wouldn’t like how this will end, I would still definitely give this five out of five stars. I wouldn’t hold it against the book or the author if I suck at waiting. I don’t normally read on unfinished series, but this is just too hard to resist. It’s been a while since I last felt this about a book. Kudos!
