Book Review: Waking Up In Vegas - Natasha Preston

Title: Waking Up In Vegas
Author: Natasha Preston
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Series: The One, Book 1
Release Date: December 6, 2019

There are bad hangovers, then there’s waking up married to your brother’s idiot friend.

On the trip of a lifetime, a drunken Wren and intoxicated Brody stumble upon a wedding ceremony and decide to tag along for the ride. But being spectators isn’t quite wild enough when you’ve got tequila in your toes, and before either of them can stop what they’re about to do, “We now pronounce you husband and wife.”

Once sober and home, the incompatible newlyweds try everything within their power to end their pantomime marriage. Unfortunately for them, the promise and vows they made to spend their life together now aren’t as easy to break as they’d once hoped.

Especially not when Brody starts to have a change of heart.

Natasha did it again. One thing I love about Natasha’s writing is her unpredictability. You will never know if you’re getting a happily ever after or not until you flip thru the last page. Waking Up in Vegas is no different.

I like how she narrated the whole plot and how the scenes were built and constructed. It was a little cliché and unusual at the same time. I love how everything progressed and how the characters are portrayed. And even though you would kind of expect what will happen next, it still gives you that element of surprise that will have you on the edge of your seat holding on for dear life. There are times when I feel that a story is lacking if they didn’t get me to tear up just a bit, but with Natasha’s writing, all the suspense and uncertainty of the plot makes up for the more emotional part. Wren and Brody’s story may not be a conventional one, but it is definitely worth every page turned.

I like that Wren isn’t like most women that has logic flying out their windows at the sight o f the person she is attracted to. I admire her level headedness that at least, she gets to restrain herself, at least for a bit. She’s logical and owns up to her mistakes. She thinks about the welfare of people, even if she has a weird way of getting it into plans. And Brody is jus so swoony. I like that he’s honest and straightforward. He may be confusing at times but only because he’s confused as well. But at least he voices out how he feels, at least what he understands of it.

This definitely deserves a 5 stars. Certainly, one of the best reads for 2019.

This isn’t my first Natasha Preston book and I like most, if not all, of her writings.

This book has so much potential on it, breaking and ripping my heart out at just 15% in of the book. I was very much interested and can’t wait to see how the story unfolds and what the twists and turn will be. And knowing Natasha’s writing, I hoped that she would be able to maintain the height of my anticipation. Unfortunately, though, the story is as good as it gets. I don’t know if it was just me but the story seemed to be lacking depth. I was hoping for more twist and conflict. Maybe I was never in that kind of position, or maybe I haven’t really connected with the characters as it is, so I wasn’t able to actually feel or understand what really happened there.

The characters are okay. I suppose that's how someone would react or behave given the situation they are in. But in general, I liked that they somehow give a little consideration about family values and not just disregarding them altogether which seems to be where other Natasha book inclines. Linc was a typical book boyfriend. I couldn't say he made it on my list, but he's sweet and adorable enough to still be labeled as book boyfriend, just not mine. Tilly, on the other hand, have a a very loyal love for her brother and family and I really admired her for that. I think I would have done the same thing she did given the circumstances she was in.

Overall, I'd still give this a passing 3 out of 5 stars. I think this is the lowest I've rated Natasha. The story itself didn't really level my expectations, but it is good enough to finish.

Natasha Preston is one of the most flexible author I have read. She can either make you cry or keep you on your toes. Lie to Me definitely did not disappoint.

I like that the story actually delivered the blurb. It's kind of hard to sometimes read the blurb because they do not really say what you're in for. I liked the pacing od the story, not too fast or not too slow either. The story plot is not as usual as the other stories I read recently where things doesn't really go bad between the characters. I also liked that it portryed two different kind of family a person can have.

It's kind of hard for me to love a heroine. I mostly find them lacking. But Savannah is just different. Apart from her familial issues, which I can't blame her for actually, I like her personality and sass. I likw that even if she is a bit unsure of herself, she can still hold her own. Kent is also definitely going onto my never ending list of BBF. I like that he genuinely despised Savannah but still acted like a good person when the situation calls for it.

I would give this a definite 5 stars. A breath of fresh story frok the recent read I have.

It had been a long time when I last read a book from Natasha Preston. Maybe that was some sort of preparation for her next book.

I don't know how to start describing the story. It was one roller coaster ride. I was laughing at one point then started to feel anxious the next. It was all happy and promising until it wasn't. I haven't felt this strongly about this book for so long that I had a book hangover for days. Natasha ripped my heart off my chest, shredded it into bits and pieces and returned it with big pink bow and the knife still in it. I don't know how to move forward from it. It was full of angst, love and passion. The story was well written that I had forgotten all about the tiny bit of inconsistency at the start of the book. It was as real as it could be. You would want to devour all the details and story it offers.

Aside from having a disregard for her family, I may have liked Bella more than I care to admit. I've been raised to always, always put your family first so it was a cringe worthy moment when Bella doesn't feel that way. But living the way she did, who am I to judge. But I love her passion and dedication with what she thinks is right. It may not have been what was mine, but she pushed until she couldn't push more. Rocco on the other hand is someone to admire. I can't even think of how to put him into words to even give him justice. He was someone real. At least as close to reality as you can get. I loved that he tried even if he didn't want to.

I'd give this a whooping 5 stars. No questions about it. It made me feel do much more. The story made grip my phone so tight I thought it's going to break. I was even scrolling past the acknowledgements hoping there was miraculously a few more pages to mend my broken heart. There weren't.
